25. What the clean energy sector is doing to close the gender gap with Natalie Irwin

by | Sep 15, 2019

Natalie is the Director of Stakeholder Engagement for Efficiency Canada and a champion for equality. Natalie’s career has been accelerating rapidly over the past few years, but this wasn’t always the case. In this conversation we talk about how advocating for yourself can bring you tremendous career growth. And more importantly, it opens the door for others and accelerates progress towards closing the gender gap.

We also talk about Equal by 30. The Equal by 30 Campaign is part of the Clean Energy, Education and Empowerment Initiative (C3E), which works to advance the participation of women in the clean energy transition, and close the gender gap. We talk about what Efficiency Canada is doing as part of this initiative and how other organizations can join. Today, women represent 25% of the clean energy workforce in Canada, and these numbers get smaller when you consider leadership roles. In the rest of the world, women represent 35% of the clean energy workforce, so Canada has some catching up to do.
